Ethernet Options reduce cost of Internet Access and Private Lines
Fast Ethernet and Gig-E options for Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) and Private Lines (PLs) offer lower cost per Mbps for businesses requiring higher bandwiths. Businesses that need 3 Mbps and higher bandwidths can now pay less per Meg if Ethernet is available at their location(s). Originally, these options were only available to organizations in buildings that were lit with pure Ethernet service. Although the number of such buildings is increasing rapidly each month, still only a small percentage of buildings in the USA are lit. However, a much larger number of buildings can be served by new techniques of delivering Ethernet carrier service. These approaches are EoC (Ethernet over Copper) and EoD (Ethernet over DS1 or DS3). Both the reliability and bandwidth consistency of these technologies is similar to that of T1, DS3, and OCx service. For more info, see the T1Guy web page devoted to Ethernet options that has been started at Ethernet WAN, Metro – Fast Ethernet and Gig E Data Circuits description and availability.
